Portrait Session Do’s & Don’ts
What do I wear? Your session begins with your dressiest outfit. Traditional, close-up portraits often look better with a solid color, long sleeve shirt or sweater. Medium tones are best.. Avoid sleeveless for this style, as all the extra skin will distract. This will give you a timeless look that won’t make you cringe in twenty years. This will allow you to be the focal point of the photograph, not your clothing Next the casual look, bring your favorite clothes to wear on a normal day. I call this dressy casual. Third outfit be totally you! Show off your unique style with something fun, bold or wild. Bring your sports props, music instruments, what do you do? For a dramatic look, choose a black or dark shirt for artistic black & white images.
What about blemishes? To help you look your best, here’s a simple trick. Stand three feet away from your mirror. Whatever blemishes you see in the mirror, you’ll see in your previews. Apply cover up to minimize any visible blemishes. We can retouch and minimize them as well as whiten teeth and eyes!
Braces Braces can be removed with artwork at an extra charge. Check with your orthodontist to see if they are willing to remove your braces temporarily.
Hair Do your hair before you arrive. If you are going to cut your hair, do it approximately two weeks before your session to avoid that ‘just cut’ look. Don’t try anything new (style or color) right before your session. Be yourself.
Glasses Your prescription lenses will distort the way the camera photographs the eye. I strongly recommend that you ask your optometrist for a pair of empty frames to borrow, or have them remove the lenses from your glasses. Minor glare can be retouched out of an image, but at an additional charge, and note that tinted lenses cannot be lightened.
Tanning Watch your sun exposure prior to your session. Sunburns cannot be fixed, and tan line removal will incur an extra fee.
Girls Bring lipstick and powder for touch ups. Make up naturally.
Please be aware that your hands will be in your portraits.
Guys Be sure to shave before your session!
If you do have facial hair, make sure it is neatly trimmed.
